Port Chalmers Building

Port Chalmers, Dunedin

Designed in 1980 for the Otago Harbour Board this building was one of the first major building projects to use Reflactafloat reflective solar control glass. Situated in the historic Port Chalmers township the new building matched the scale, colour and patterning of the existing streetscape. The glass cladding and the simple building form reflects and reinforces the traditional buildings of Port Chalmers and the tree-clad hills of the surrounding port.

Over the past 40 years the building has absorbed internal planning changes, required little maintenance, has defined the Port Chalmers Container Terminal and Port Otago Ltd. and has been lovingly adopted by residents of the local community.
